In the spotlight: Gap Analysis for Israel Using Vertebrate Distribution

This project aims to identify areas that are most valuable for conservation. We look for those areas that are currently unprotected, and are particularly rich in endangered species. Standard GAP analyses attempt to account for all species (within a specific taxon). Here, we focus on a very special group of species, that we believe is in urgent need for further protection. This group includes only endangered species, that most of their distribution is currently unprotected. The project is funded by the Israeli Ministry of Environment. The product is aimed to serve planners and decision makers. The current project covers endangered vertebrates, including fish, amphibians, reptiles, birds and mammals. We plan to extend our effort and include plants, and (as data is gathered) invertebrates.    More here...
